Lost - near the elevators in Sony Studios in NYC…
I decided to follow the group of trendy black girls heading through the shiny metallic doors. I was in search of the Kelly Rowland listening event for her latest album, and being the people watcher that I am, I assumed
the group of women were probably doing the same.

Once encased in the small breathless space, I slinked next to a tall chick, with long black hair which seem to be escaping from her oversized newsboy cap. Before I could ask, “Do you guys know where the Kelly Rowland event is located?” I realized, I was the midst of Kel’s, and her entourage.
“It’s you,” was all that could manage to escape my lips, embarrassed I didn’t come up with something more eloquent.
“Yeah, it’s me,” she responded, not at all intimidated by my gazing.
“I love it,” I said without thinking. “You’re all incognegro.” Of course, referring to her get-up.
“Inconegro,” laughs her servant assistant.
“Did you make that one up yourself?” inquires Kel’s.
“Yeah, I’m a writer,” I say, “Making up witty shit is what I do.”
We arrived at our floor and my moment with Destiny ends - what follows is an half-assed review of her latest album currently titled My Story - Kelly Rowland (she chose this title because Beyonce and Tina Knowles kept telling her the songs tell a story, strangely she never mentions what Michelle told her to call the album - we wonder if Michelle has even heard the album.)
Sadly, our exchange in the elevator was more interesting than the album.
Quik Review:
Got’s To Go > produced by Ivy 3, not anything stunning… Mid-Tempo track
Workher Man > Staccato styled sound, reminiscent of a Timberland track, women in the room loved the girl power theme.
Still In Love > Mid-Tempo joint that Kelly penned herself, not bad, not great.
Ghetto > Wrote and produced by Tank, Kelly wants Snoop on the hook, nice slower joint. She says she wants to get Snoop to flow over the track.
The Show > Another Tank banger… Nothing specatacular (Mathew Knowles joins the session at this point, and encourages everyone to clap for Kelly.)
Everythought of You > Slow song about love, and being in Love… One of the many inspired by a relationship gone awry.
Better Without You > This is another slow joint, inspired this time, by someone she dumped, and realized she was better without him. Produced by Kenny and Charlie.
What It Do > Our favorite song of the session, up tempo, hot mix, and great lyrics. Hottest beat on the album by far - should be the first single, but probably won’t be.
Flashback > Kelly’s favorite song on the album, it was the only song she sang along too, and will probably be her first single.
Tell Me > Indian infused beat, song about honesty - not our scene.
Can’t Do It Again > I couldn’t do this song, very slow… so I went to the restroom.
Just Me > Another slow joint, Kelly seems to love those.
Buck On > Obviously Matthew Knowles favorite, he brought this single to the listening event, and even hyped that they are getting some big rapper to add to it.
This Is Love > The big ballad, could have used more background help, her voice sounds a bit lonely.
