Mario Makes Moves

Honestly, I just wanted to see Clive Davis

So when I was invited to J Records to hang out with newly signed American Idol drop-out Mario Vasquez - I jumped. Although I wasn’t genuinely interested in Mario, the thought that I could run into Clive roaming the halls of J, was what really sealed the deal.

However, once I arrived at the tony 5th Ave offices and ushered into a decadently designed room with Mario, it became obvious - Clive wasn’t making the meeting. Strangely, Mario made up for it.

It was the day after he filmed his “Gallery” vid, and he excitedly explained that it had a Westside Story theme, and he had a blast shooting in Brooklyn even though he’d had no sleep. While we talked, food arrived and before he could take a single bite, he forced me to share - which struck me as strange and genuine (I’m just not used to pop strangers being kind).

Live at R.C.

We hung for a while with topics ranging from Clive’s help with the album, to his club days in NYC… And whenever he needed to prove his point, he’d break into song, effortlessly - I was jealous.

By the time our conversation ended, there was still no sign of Clive in the building. But I got over it… On my way out Mario pointed out Clive’s office - which was more glorious than anything else in the building. It was all I could do from sitting behind his desk, and commisioning the ultimate photo op. But reality set in and I realized that Clive could basically buy and sell me - I decided to keep on walking and just be happy I was in the building.

Check out Mario posing for R.C. above.

Mario Vazquez sung 3 songs on Cesar’s cd “worlds of change”; before American Idol and the sexual harrasment lawsuit against him. I know both for many years, here in Los Angeles. Recently, before the Clive Davis pre grammy party, Cesar asked Mario if he could go so he can finally meet Clive and give him his music. Mario completely ignored Cesar and that shows you what Mario Vazquez is all about! Mario is selfish, self-center and that is why he is not succesful. His album flooped, his career gone. I feel sorry for him.
