Bran has The Jones

Someone please get Brandy a Zoloft.

I don’t know what’s been going on with her since she saw a Full Moon, but lately Brandy seems a bit depressed. Am I the only one noticing that most of the subject matter in her material recently seems to deal with cheating paramours, or dysfunctional relationships… it’s as if her real life is spilling into her music.

It’s understandable that most artist draw from their life experiences when it comes to inspiration, but has life & love been that dismal for Bran? What happened to “Wanting to be down,” or “Finding Angels in Disguise.” What happened to her happy.

Despite wanting her to clear that throat, I’ve mostly enjoyed Brandy’s raspy voice. It’s recognizable and in a strange way it’s become her signature – i.e. Mariah’s wail or Janet’s giggle – and on her new single (which we have no idea if it’s for an upcoming album or soundtrack) it’s grooves nicely with the staccato beat. But yet again, Brandy’s pissed at some boy, about something random…

We’d love for that semi-blissful Ms. Norwood to return to the world… Maybe then, she’d have a hit. “The Jone’s” is cute, but it’s not a comeback.

Well, I guess artists just like to express what’s goin on at the moment. I do miss the old Brandy..but that was when she was in her teens. I mean..I love Mary J., but no one has yet mentioned her ‘not gon cry’ on almost every album. but hey..she still havin a breakthrough i guess. Maybe Brandy still goin through hers.

Angel in Disguise was definitely not a happy song…it was about the “other woman”…neither was “Brokenhearted” or even “Sittin on Top of the World” for that matter. I think Ms. Norwood’s only happy hits were the first…if u listen to the rest, they’re all kinda somber. I think her stuff just seems mopey now because we know she ain’t on her game lol.

Brandy is the best. A classic talent. One that seems to have been around for ages. She has earned the right to make the type of music she wants to make. Whatever she does we all still seem to listen.

I must admit… I still pop in Brandy’s ‘Touch Me’ when I am feeling nostalgic or in a lovey dovey kinda mood… I LOVE her feel good music.

I must also admit that I pop in Brandy’s ‘I thought’ when I am pissed about a recent break up and want to dance and scream at the top of my lungs venting…

So while I feel you, I dig depressed angry Brandy as much as I do happy go lucky Brandy.

What can I say? I love my bytch.
