While in L.A. over the weekend, I had a moment with striking actress Paula Patton. I was mid-sentence at the Beverly Hill’s Four Season’s when Paula glided into the room, for the first time ever - I forgot what the hell I was talking about.

For those unfamiliar with Paula, she’s the lead in the new Outkast film, Idlewild. Set in the 1930’s, it follows two young men (Outkast’ Dre & Big Boi), as they navigate life, love and death. Despite a marquee of some of the biggest names today, i.e. Outkast, Terrence Howard, Cicely Tyson and Patti LaBelle (to name a few), it’s Paula’s lounge singer with a secret, who truly steals the film. It’s defenitely worth checking out when it comes to theaters - for the soundtrack alone.
One of the amazing aspects of Paula’s life is how she came to this place in life. She began her career as a Production Assistant for various motion pitcures and absolutely hated it. With encourangement from her husband Robin Thicke (yeah, that Robin Thicke) she began acting classes, and really learned her craft. Once graduating, she say’s it was Robin who first believed in her, and encouraged her to follow a dream that most said, ‘would never happen.’

Idlewild is her first feature film role, which she is also the female lead (she had a small part in Will Smith’s Hitch). Next up for Paula, is a part in Denzel Washington’s De Ja Vu, the only nugget of info she would give up is that she’s Denzel’s sort-of girlfriend - which we think is a great power move.
Paula seems well on her way to become the next ‘It’ girl. Or at least the next in line to get the roles Halle turns down.
