We’re a little worried about Kelly Rowland these days, it seems her long awaited sophmore disc, Ms. Kelly has been pushed back more times than Brandy’s hairline.
Considering that Barbados born Rihanna has released three albums since the time Kelly hit us with her first solo collection, we’ve assembled a list of things Kelly should do to bring more attention to her Ms. Kelly project, because sadly… It’s not always about the music.
- Sully Your Image: It’s no secret you’re a good southern gal, but everyone loves juicy gossip. Give people what they want and Wendy Williams a reason to talk about you! People don’t buy Hillary Duff because of her lame music, it’s her appearances in Star and InTouch that make her interesting. Even though DUI’s seem to be all the rage these days, it’s never a good look to follow the pack. Our suggestion? Rehab - even though you have no real problem, America loves a good comeback. So make up some habit (i.e. Coke is really cool these days), and let Beyonce be the dreamgirl, besides it’s a lot more fun to cause nightmares.
- Date Someone More Famous: Remember what happened when Jay started up with Bee, they both became that much more powerful and photogenic. It could also happen to you. While you may not be able to get someone on Jay’s level financially, there are many more possibilities. We think you should follow Janet’s move and date someone interesting with power… You should really call someone who generates their own ink. Nick Cannon, or Reggie Bush would make a great start, but dating Missy Elliot would have you on the cover of Rolling Stone.
- Start A Feud: Sadly, R&B music is sort of boring these days, remember when Diana Ross & Patti LaBelle had drama with every other diva around. Why don’t you try that and pick a fight with Brandy, Mya, or even Lil’ Mama, leave Beyonce & Rihanna alone, since you’d lose. The next time your featured in any major mag, talk a lot of shit about everyone else’s projects, and how they’ve copied your style… I know it seems out of character for you, but honestly… people love the drama… just look at Mary J. Blige, Pink and Keyshia Cole’s careers.
- Call Benny Medina: You really need new representation. Sadly everyone knows you’re not their first priority except you… Hell, Solange’s album may even drop before yours. Find someone who has experiece creating superstars that aren’t named Beyonce.
- Get An Endorsement: Promotion just isn’t what it used to be in the music biz, so you’re going to need corporate sponsorship just to keep your image in the mainstream. You really should find a product you believe in and pitch yourself. We recommend being the face of an obscure fashion house or clothing line or even create a line like Sarah Jessica Parker. As long as it’s not House of Dereon, you’ll be thought of as a fashion-ista… And don’t you want people to think about you?
