It’s not everyday I get a phone call from VH-1’s Charm School contestant Saaphyri Windsor, so of course I answered.
How does it feel to be done with Charm School?
Oh man, Charm School has been bananas, it was a good experience though. It was enlightening, I loved Charm School!
So you don’t regret doing it?
No, I would do it again.
Have you really used the lessons they taught you in real life?
Some of them, like that boot camp thing, I don’t know if I am going to use that too much because I don’t really like the woods. I guess learning to eat with proper silverware is really good. I actually lost a couple of pounds just trying to figure out how to use them.
Who was your biggest competition in the beginning?
I never thought about who was my biggest competition, I was like let me stay past today and not have a problem with the bed.
Do you regret that bed situation on Flavor of Love?
I was mad at myself for that, cause I was like I didn’t get any chance to spend with Flav. Regret, not really, but I wanted to spend time with Flav.
So you were seriously interested in Flav?
I think Flav is sexy, I love chocolate…
What’s sexy about Flav exactly?
He’s charismatic, and I find that so appealing.
They gave New York a show [I Love New York], what would a Saaphyri dating show be like?
It be called “Step into the Jungle with Saaphyri”… Shoot I need a man, so I would have some of my girls to help me out, since I would make the wrong decision about relationships.
Are a lot of guys coming to 54th and Crenshaw looking for you?
I do get that, but I don’t want that. People come and hang out at the shop, so it’s hard for me to be able to go into the shop to even work. And besides I don’t want a guy because he saw me on TV… I mean lie at least.
What color is your hair these days?
It’s all black.
Do people recognize you with a regular look?
I do hair, so I always switch up on styles anyway. It was baby blue before that… still sexy.
Do you hang with anyone from the show?
I’m with Boots (Larissa) a lot. Most of the girls don’t live out here in LA. It’s only a select few, Me, Becky and Larissa.
Let’s talk money, can you support yourself from this show?
I’m not suppose to be talking about this.
I’m not asking figures, but do you have to work right now?
You better still work [she laughs] you are not gonna be comfortable.
Well, Hottie made it seem like she never has to work again?
Hottie also made it seem like her hair was gonna last her for five years, so you may want to think about that.
Did they portray you accurately?
Sometime…
Well, I fell for you when you blew your nose on that dress in the consignment shop. How’d you come up with that?
[Giggling] All I knew is that when I had to blow my nose, I wasn’t lifting my head with snot running down my face. I was like it was either my face or your clothes… it was their clothes.
Do you stay in contact with Monique?
Real talk, I like Monique. I don’t think anyone who was too light would have been able to deal with us. We would have been running the school, and out of control. I applaud Monique for what she did. She’s large and for her to step into the reality realm… she has courage.
You were one of the only chicks that didn’t have a problem with New York…
Well I wasn’t on Flavor of Love #1, I never really hated her, since I never had a problem with her, but I can see why other people had issues with her.
You told Monique, Saaphyri is your real name, how is that?
Well, it’s not pronounced Safari, it’s pronounced Sa-fire-ry. It stems from Kaballah, I think it means paths to the tree of life. My grandmother is Jewish, she’s from Ethiopia and that’s who named me.
What’s next, music, movies… tv/movies?
I did a movie called Ricky & Melinda. I play this crazy lady named Shante, it’s about this lady and her nephew traveling to LA on a bus.
I also have a product coming out shortly called Lip Chap.
And why is gasoline such a great smell?
You know what, when we were little, we used to run past this gas station, I slide and feel, I still have the little burn on my arm, but I liked the smell of it. It just reminds me of being free and having fun. You don’t like it?
I do, but I never related it to perfume, but it is distinct. I got you.
I never wanted the perfume to smell like gas but I like it.
So I predicted that Hottie would win the show, because she’d do anything to win, but when she got bumped, you became my clear favorite.
Aww thank you, What happens if I don’t win?
Then I am just wrong… so if you get voted off next week, I’ll look real stupid – don’t let me down.
