Wendy

According to recent reports former Head of the Class’er Robin Givens is portraying Air Wave Queen Wendy Williams in her upcoming biopic… although Robin is a formidable actress, she’s not right for the part.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Robin Givens is super bad (In a good way), but she just doesn’t have that scrappy factor and would be just wrong as Wendy Williams (keep in mind this is a woman who overcame a raving cocaine addiction, and was infamous for “outing” Puffy at his height of fame).

I decided to call in R.C. advisor and noted New York casting agent Cristian Tomas to get his opinion, on whom he would choose to portray Wendy. Here’s what he had to say.

AISHA TYLER (pictured above) is probably the biggest working actress, who could carry off the Wendy persona. She’s statue-esque, and just as Wendy broke new ground in radio, she did the same in television (as the first black chick that intermingled with the Friends). It also doesn’t hurt that her size 10’s are comparable to Wendy’s husky 11’s. She could also pull off the Wendy bravado while keeping it classy and funny, no small feat.

Queen

QUEEN LATIFAH

Yeah she’s a big girl, but so was Wendy at some points. And the Queen has the ability to get lost in her characters, a la acting. We can almost see Dana behind the boards, telling it like it is, and having fun while doing it. The question is, would she – maybe if she remembers Last Holiday.

JHud

JENNIFER HUDSON

She’s tall, and like Wendy she’s larger than life. Although she’s a relative newcomer, this would be a starring role she could possibly sink her teeth into and pull off. It also wouldn’t hurt to shake that “I need to sing in movies” stigma. She has enough sass to pass as a viable radio jockey, and Wendy should be ecstatic a former Oscar Winner would do the deed.

Would you replace Robin with Aisha?

Aisha really is the best fit, although J Hud would do good also. Anyone other than RObin.
