It looks like the web boom is back to basics, our friend and colleague Laurel Toby just sold her famed website mediabistro.com for $23 million.

We met Laurel Toby shortly after landing on the island of Manhattan. At a cocktail reception of course, loaded with drinks, the super friendly Laurel approached me after finding out I worked in internet media… Soon after that meeting I found myself contemplating rocking a feather boa as a host of one of her “web media” parties. Considering that I still have a working penis, I decided to pass on the boa and instead just greet guest like any good host should - with a warm smile.

A year later, I was still hosting parties for Laurel, and ironically, thanks to meeting Laurel, I have a rolodex larger than Lisa Rinna’s bottom lip. I found out earlier today that Laurel sold her site to Jupitermedia, for a cool $23 mil. Which is a great mark-up, considering she founded the website as a way to make friends in the written media world.

Congrat’s Laurel on all your success, we revel in being able to be apart of your journey.

yo - word up to Laurel! But to me her hey day was when she was doing cameo’s on the NY 360* show on NYC-TV. That was her big mac moment!

D - thanks for sending me this. Yes the Laurel appearances on NYC TV were the best. As NYers we have the show’s exec producers Arick Wierson and Amy Palmer to thank for that!
