Before R&B became the domain of Robin Thicke, Amy Winehouse & Justin Timberlake… Hall & Oates were the kings of blue eyed soul.

Strangely for a couple of years during the eighties, Darryl Hall and John Oates were an unstoppable force in R&B music. Two average looking white guys, one who only sang lead, the other only played bass, who were so in touch with their “hip” style they even released a Live at the Apollo album. Their music, a fusion they dubbed Rock & Soul, transcended race with hits “Rich Girl”, “Kiss on My List”, “Private Eyes” and the sing-a-long worthy “Maneater.”

Check out my favorite single from the duo, the timeless “I Can’t Go For That, (No Can Do),” it’s so timeless, I told someone that exact phrase the other day, and I meant it.
