Style maharishi Shelly Castro is having a moment…
As one of the most modish stylist working today, Shelly Castro’s influence has been reflected on such diverse personalities as John Cena, Three Six Mafia and most strangely… even me. R.C. sat down with Ms. Castro to find out a little more about her business, and why she believes cell phones shouldn’t be considered a fashion accessory.
Who do you consider a style icon and why?
Diana Ross. She represents what fashion and style is and was all about, especially for black women. I use to act like her when I was a little girl and the first time I saw Mahogany I knew I wanted to do something that had to do with fashion.
If you could makeover any celebrity, who would it be, and what would you do?
Keyshia Cole. I feel like she needs to be taken to the next level. She’s playing it too safe or not getting it right at all. Also Kirsten Dunst could use my touch. She just doesn’t seem to get it either. She’s either really sloppy or the outfit is not happening, the clothes wear her instead of vice versa.
What’s the accessory that every man should own?
I hate that cellphones have replaced watches, I think every man should have at least one or two good looking watches. It makes the man look more distinguished.
What’s the biggest mistake most men make with fashion?
Honestly some men don’t believe in an iron. The wrinkled look is cool at times, but not to go to work or to the club. Its just not a good look.
If you could only style one body part, what part would you choose… and why?
WOW, I would pick feet. I love shoes all kind and there are so many different styles out now for everyone.
What’s the biggest misconception that people have about your job?
That its the easiest job in the world and as soon as you enter the industry you make all this money. Well honey, that is soooooo not the case. There are steps you need to go through before you are established.
Who would you consider as America’s Next Top Model?
Me, of course.
