Naomi Campbell is uberly pissed with the Condé Nast regime, and their hesitance to utilize black models – namely herself.
“Black models are being sidelined by the major modeling agencies,” Campbell says. “Even myself, I get a raw deal from my own country in England… I hardly come on the front pages of Vogue magazine. Only white models, some of whom are not as prominent as I am, are put on splash pages. I don’t want to quit modeling until I find that black models get equal prominence and recognition by the world media.”
If you think Campbell’s accusations are exaggerated - think again. Although she’s been featured on the cover of Vogue eight times in her career (far more than her rival Tyra Banks) she’s still low on the totem poll when it comes to the white models in her league, i.e. Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista and Gisele Bundchen (24, 13, and 12 covers respectively).
If I were Miranda Priestley Anna Wintour, I’d get her on the cover pronto, considering a random blackberry could be flying in her direction during the next Prada show.
