Something told me that if I passed on an interview with budding film director Ahmed Ghani today, years later I’d be flipping through some “It” magazine featuring his work and I’d wonder what I missed.
Never one to have a life of regrets, I present the talented Ahmed Ghani.
Tell me about your film, Ruthless?
It’s a 22 minute online short, it’s a horror film about a young 7-year-old boy who gets killed by a hit and run driver, and on the one year anniversary of his death, someone starts killing the known witnesses of the crime.
What inspired the film?
I wanted to do a horror film, but how it could affect someone. One day I was looking at newspaper articles and read something about a child that was hit by a hit-and-run driver, so I just took it from there.
How long have you been doing this?
It’s been about a year now; Ruthless is my first big major film that I’ve done.

How’s the response?
People have been shocked. I don’t use a professional camera to film anything. Everything is very low budget, and people at the festival are shocked since I haven’t been to film school and have no formal training.
Which film director has your career?
Definitely Wes Craven and Darren Lynn Bousman who directed Saw II and Saw III. The Saw series changed the horror genre, it brought a story to horror films - not just about people screaming - it has a plot and you know why people do things.
Who would be some of your dream actors?
I just saw Premonition the other day on DVD, and Sandra Bullock is someone I’d like to work with, she can do comedy, action and thrillers, she’s an amazing actress.
What’s next?
I’m working a sequel to Ruthless and I just finished writing the screenplay the other day, so now we are doing the casting.
