So, while you were wondering what the hell Mario was doing on Dancing With The Stars Monday, RC was actually asking him.
So a lot of your fans might be wondering why you’re on Dancing With The Stars instead of releasing more singles from the album …
My current single “Crying Out” is out right now, and it’s doing really good. DWTS does not stop my music career at all. My fans will get a chance to see me vulnerable … see more of my personality. It’s another way to entertain, and my fans are the ones who will help me win the show.
Do you plan on releasing anymore singles from Go?
Yeah, we just released “Music For Love” as the next single, and after that, I may move on to the next project called “Let Me Watch.”
Woah … that’s an interesting title … what’s that one about?
It’s a club record, very sensual and fantasy-type. I wrote it with Sean Garrett. It’s coming from a more sexual side as a man … a lot of times I write more from relationship issues, but this one kind of pushes the envelope.
How has the DWTS experience been so far?
It’s been wild – nothing like the actual show. It’s all live, none of it is taped. The rush that I feel when I’m performing, the world is seeing that rush. Rehearsals have been crazy for me, sometimes 8 hours a day, sometimes 5.
How many days a week you guys practice?
When we first started, we got about 3 weeks to practice. Now, we got about 6 days for less for each dance.
Wow, do you feel you can handle all the rigorous training and performing, given your career?
With this show, if you don’t have formal training, you are at a disadvantage. I’ve never had formal training, just a little hip hop dance, stuff like that. But Karina, my partner, is a great teacher, and she’s beautiful.
Speaking of Karina … the show has been known to produce some relationships … do you think you’ll be hooking up with anyone?
Of course, me and Karina are jumping the broom any day now [laughs] … nah, it’s just a professional friendship. She’s incredibly gorgeous, and fits incredibly into my mold … but I gotta stay focused on the show. You really just never know … but right now, it’s all about the show.
Who are some of your inspirations, performance-wise?
Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, James Brown … Whitney Houston is an amazing vocalist. Patti LaBelle, Boyz II Men … Teddy Pendergrass had a real swagger onstage … LL Cool J … N’SYNC …
Oh cool, so what about LL Cool J inspires … wait, did you just say N’SYNC?
[Laughs] Nah, man I’m just kidding …
Well, they were good performers …
I mean, they were good, but I didn’t like, blow up watching them.
