One of my favorite pastimes on a clear day, is to grab a frappucino and walk over the many bridges in NYC. Since walking bridges is something that I’ve only experienced while living here, I decided to chronicle it.
The bridge that I deal with the most is the Williamsburg Bridge, like the famed Brooklyn Bridge it also spans the East river connecting Brooklyn to Manhattan. Not only does the Williamsburg Bridge carry automobiles and a walkway, it is also the path for the JMZ lines on the subway, so imagine strolling across the river, with trains barreling by (pictured below).
Although both bridges serve the same purpose and are within miles of each other, you can tell which one the city respects and which one is left in cut. While the Brooklyn Bridge is immaculately manicured with plaques extolling it’s history, the Burg Bridge is graffiti strewn and a bit slimy - but strangely it’s my favorite since it seems a bit more lived in.
If you ever decide to walk the bridges, you must walk from Brooklyn going into Manhattan - the views of the city look like stills. Catch some of mine below.
