Imagine a world where scenesters such as Iman, Erykah Badu, Pam Grier, Estelle & others were awarded accolades for their positive portrayals in the media over the years.

Well VH-1 and Black Girls Rock Inc., do just that, while paying tribute to the ladies mentioned above and countless others at the 3rd Annual Black Girls Rock Awards hosted by esteemed actress Regina King.

BGRThe event will take place Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Stanley H. Kaplin Penthouse at Lincoln Center (Rose Building) in New York City. And of course, tickets are scarcer than sane people at a McCain/Palin rally, but if your able to get in, the pay off of being in the company of some of the most beautiful people in the world is worth the wait.

Founded by DJ Beverly Bond, Black Girls Rock Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit, youth empowerment mentoring organization established as a reaction to the often seen negative images consistently imprinted upon Black women expressly in mass media.

“My goal is to help young women see themselves as multi-dimensional,” says Bond. “There’s more to life than dancing in videos.”

In a post Oprah / Condoleeza Rica America, we couldn’t agree with her more.
