Whore’s Mascara

If life had a soundtrack, this would be the Whore’s Mascara playlist.

We queried Lonni Bahls of downtown’s current “It” band Whore’s Mascara on all things music. But be warned, his answers are almost as interesting as the music his band cranks out.

What’s your go-to song on Karaoke night?

Any duet I can get Georgia, our female vocalist, to sing with me. Her pipes outshine mine by a mile… well, her vocal pipes, at least.

Name a song an ex ruined and why?

I spent most of high school listening to Moby’s ‘Play’ while experimenting with drugs with a particularly wayward ex (who has since launched an exciting career as a bagger for Trader Joe’s). So…the album’s not necessarily ruined, per se, but it certainly incites some serious flashbacks.

What’s the first album you bought/stole?

‘Freedom’ by George Michael. And I’ve been living my life by the motto “‘when you shake your ass, they notice fast” ever since.

Whore's Mascara

What song makes you feel invincible?

‘Superstar’ by Whore’s Mascara, of course! It outlines a simple yet surefire formula for how to become an international sex sensation in a matter of days.

Song you were most likely conceived to?

‘I’m So Excited’ by The Pointer Sisters. My mom always worked extra hard when that song came on during her Jazzercise classes in the 80s.

What song makes you cry?

‘Breathe Me’ by Sia. Cheesy, I know (and unoriginal, considering it’s been used in basically every TV show since 2004). But moving nonetheless.

What song gets the party started instantly?

‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers is sure to get the party started — but in a smooth, gradual way, which in my opinion is often the best way.

What song makes you think of your childhood?

‘I Touch Myself’ by The Divinyls.
